The DNIPRO Tourniquet is a windlass-operated tactical mechanical tourniquet designed to stop severe limb haemorrhage through circumferential application, occluding blood flow distal to the point of application. Manufactured in Ukraine, the DNIPRO has been supplied extensively to Ukrainian forces and has built a strong reputation through large-scale operational use in the Russo-Ukrainian war.
Designed for military, law enforcement, emergency response, and serious civilian trauma scenarios, the DNIPRO is built to provide reliable haemorrhage control while addressing known failure points seen in other windlass tourniquet designs.
The DNIPRO uses a newly shaped, stronger windlass made from aluminium alloy (duralumin). The product page states it has been independently tested in Australia and is stronger than alternative windlass tourniquets, while remaining comfortable and reliable to operate with or without gloves.
A strengthened yet flexible backplate improves durability while allowing the device to conform to limbs of different sizes. This reinforced structure also supports the windlass retention gate and improves performance at common failure points.
The DNIPRO includes a wide Velcro strap with a laser-cut porthole, allowing users to quickly identify the strap edge by touch. Its reinforced inner tape is designed to be highly tensile and tear-resistant while maintaining smooth function during windlass rotation.
It also features a curved, single-slotted metal routing buckle designed to improve efficacy, speed up belt threading, and withstand heat, cold, UV exposure, and marine environments better than plastic alternatives. A saw-tooth routing buckle lock helps grip and lock the strap on the first bite, supporting more efficient application.
The DNIPRO incorporates additional padding between the backplate and routing buckle to reduce pressure points, minimise skin and tissue pinching, and improve overall comfort and efficacy during use. The lower fixation of the external strap under the backplate helps prevent interference with windlass rotation and reinforces the platform from below.
These design elements are intended to improve both application reliability and casualty comfort in high-stress environments.
Built for real-world haemorrhage control, the DNIPRO is suited to inclusion in:
The DNIPRO Tourniquet is presented by SOTER as a field-proven limb tourniquet with extensive operational use in Ukraine. The product page strongly recommends accredited training in tourniquet application, including courses such as Stop the Bleed, First-on-the-Scene, or Tactical Emergency Casualty Care for First Responders.
